“Numb” is survival character drama that inspired the score with its great performances, beautiful direction and breathtaking cinematography.
The music for the film is dark and mournful at times as well as delicate and violent, rising to emotional heights as the characters struggle in their quest for buried gold.
The music is allowed to play an integral role in the telling of the story and our understanding of the characters and their personal plights and relationships.
THE DIGITAL BOOKLET contains detailed notes from the composer about the process and creation of the score, going in depth about the decisions made and why and how the score functions in the context of the film.
I love movie music and I couldn’t be happier with the soundtrack. It’s everything I hoped for and more. It brings the viewer more deeply into the story, and reveals some of the deeper meanings we intended. It heightens the experience of the thrilling moments and draws our attention to emotional details in some of the quieter scenes.
Each time I listen to the soundtrack I’m in awe of Alain’s skill and pathos, and I still pinch myself when I think that I got to be a part of creating such a remarkable score.
Jason R. Goode ~ Director of Numb
“If every frame of film is worth a thousand words, the score helps define what emotional language is being spoken. The music of Numb leads us to sojourn through the desolate, conflicted landscapes of the Canadian wilderness in search of something…gold, which could solve all our problems.
The music deftly captures the action and suspense, but even more the longing, desperation and lament for relationships pushed to the edge of destruction. It drives us forward, downward, into deepening danger, then draws us back to reflection.
Alain’s score has achieved what film music is at it’s best; transcendence beyond being simply music to a layer of the cinematic experience.”
